On Thursday, we took a trip to the church to look at the many uses of rock there. Mrs MacPherson was on hand to share her extensive knowledge of local history linked to the church and some of the gravestones. The children discovered how the church had been rebuilt in part many times, with different materials, (including rocks from the Bawdsey Martello Tower) and looked at the different kinds of rock that the gravestones were made from. They saw up close the effects of weathering and were able to comment on what made particular rocks good for their purpose. They compared and contrasted, investigated and discussed. The weather was, on the whole, kind to us and a good time was had by all.
